We are just back from some time away in Norway. Now, when we go on holiday we like to plan, research and get to know where we are going and what we are doing. We look for the historic sights and places of interest. We have also got into the habit of finding the highest tower or building to go up to get the best views of the city.
Now, in Oslo, that’s not a tower but the ski jump up in the hills. It’s an easy train ride from town, with a short and steep walk up to the base of the tower. Thankfully, there is a lift to get you to the top.
Now, as part of our research we found out that you can zipwire down from the top of the tower and we decided, well, we are only going to be there once, we may as well do it. It’s only 30 seconds to get down from the top to the bottom. Easy!!
Now, there is a bit of context here, and something we didn’t really take into consideration. Our mistake was we only looked at the 30 second’s part…. not the how far down part.
The tower is 134 meters high, or, in old money, 440 feet. To put that into a Dundee building for context, that’s like being at the top of three St. Mary’s Tower’s. Great views, but a long way down.
So, after a wait, because of the rain, we were first on at 1pm. harness, helmet, we were even weighed (wasn’t sure what that was for!) then we were ready to go.
Fastened to the wire and sitting on the wee blue bench. Then the guy said to me, do you want to push yourself off, or for me to give you a little push. Now, if it were left to me to push myself off, I would probably still be sitting there. So, I asked for a push.
For the next 30 seconds, it was exhilarating. The rush, the flying through the air. A great experience. I think I would even do it again!
But I needed a push…. I wasn’t going to do it on my own.
Sometimes in life we need a little push to try something new, the results are rewarding!! We have just to trust who is guiding us
